In this course you will be introduced to the practice of an ancient Buddhist meditation that develops mindfulness through maintaining awareness of the breath.

Topics covered will include:
• finding an alert and comfortable meditation posture

• how to work with the mind in meditation

• how to maintain one’s meditative awareness off the cushion
• higher states of consciousness

Thread of Bliss Ayurvedic Oil Therapy
Shirodhara: a continuous stream of warm oil flowing over the forehead. A profound Ayurvedic treatment - banishes stress, improves sleep, relaxes the body and mind.

What is Ayurvedic Oil Therapy?

Ayurvedic oil therapy, or shirodhara, is an ancient technique where warmed oil flows over the forehead and scalp in a continuous stream for 40 minutes. It is a relaxing, blissful, total-body experience. The action of the oil falling onto the forehead and over the scalp deeply penetrates the nervous system, synchronizes brain waves, and enhances dopamine and melatonin levels in the brain. The nervous system is supported, nourished and renewed, leaving one with heightened awareness, greater sensitivity, and a stronger, cleansed body and mind.

Jennifer Eddinger is an artist, Isha yogini, and shirodhara therapist. She received instruction in shirodhara therapy from Karyn Chabot of Sacred Stone School of Ayurvedic Massage, and from Ed Danaher of The Ayurvedic Institute. She opened Thread of Bliss in November of 2009 to share this unique and powerful modality with the community. She works part-time at the Maharishi Ayurveda Center in Lancaster, MA, volunteers regularly for Isha Foundation, and is creating a nationwide online directory for Ayurvedic practitioners, services and centers,www.AyurvedaNextdoor.com, due to be launched this October, 2011.



Beginner Series - An Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga!

In this four week course we will introduce you to the science of Ashtanga, an amazing breathing movement system. In Ashtanga, every movement is correlated with breath and once learned can allow you to flow in and out of the postures with ease and peace. In the four weeks, we will cover Sun Salutation A and B, the power of breath (ujjayi), the standing and closing sequences. We will also include breathing and meditation techniques to compliment your yoga practice. This is an excellent way to begin yoga practice or enhance your understanding of Ashtanga. This class is wonderful for both beginning and continuous students.

An Introduction to Meditation with Dh. Suddhayu - Metta Bhavana - Loving Kindness

The metta bhavana, or cultivation of loving-kindness, is a core Buddhist meditation practice that anyone can utilize. In it, we come to terms with our tendency towards hatred; actively turning our hearts away from it while creating a new openness within ourselves. In this workshop you will be introduced to the entire sitting practice. Discussion will include guidance in transforming hatred while off the meditation cushion as well.

Core Workout Plan with Michaela Phaneuf!

This will be a silent Mysore-style self practice space for Ashtanga practitioners while Joseph Carringer plays his didgeridoos. Lona will be adjusting and helpfully guiding in a traditional Mysore style setting. Your body will be engulfed with healing sounds and your chakras will open and be balanced. For yoga practitioners familiar with Primary Series or a Mysore-style practice.
